Under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006, the Board is responsible for administering the registration of plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers.

What is registration?

  • In New Zealand sanitary plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying work is restricted and can only be carried out by tradespeople who are authorised to do so.

  • The Board is responsible for setting the minimum standards for registration and ensuring those persons carrying out regulated work are competent to do so.

  • Plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers are required by law to be registered with the Board.

If you need more help or have questions about the registration process please contact the registration team on 0800 743 262 (+64 4 494 2970 from overseas) email registration@pgdb.co.nz

Registration on its own does not provide authorisation for you to work in the trades

About the NZ Practising Licence

Once you are registered, you need to apply for a practising licence which gives you the authorisation to carry out work in your chosen trade/s.
