Date: 18/11/2024

In November 2023, MBIE published updated acceptable solutions and verification methods which support plumbing and drainage work. These changes came with a one-year transition period where the previous versions of the documents could still be used.

The transition period for these updates ended on 1 November 2024.

This means that building consent applications submitted on or after 2 November 2024 that use these acceptable solutions or verification methods as a means of compliance now need to use the most recent versions of these documents.

To see what’s changed and to access the latest acceptable solutions and verification methods, go to MBIE's Building Code updates.

Plumbing and drainage changes

The plumbing and drainage updates included amendments to the acceptable solutions and verification methods for:

  • G12 Water Supplies
  • G13 Foul Water
  • E1 Surface Water.

The changes covered by this transition period included:

  • maximum hot water delivery temperatures
  • protection of potable water updates
  • citation of the 2021 versions of the AS/NZS 3500 Plumbing and drainage standards.

Changes to lead and corrosion resistance in copper alloy plumbing products covered by the amended Acceptable Solution G12/AS1 have a longer transition period until 1 May 2026
