Gas certification
The certifying gasfitter must provide a signed copy of the certificate to the consumer. The certifying gasfitter may not be the person who actually carried out the work at your property. However, the certifying gasfitter must be satisfied that the work carried out is in accordance with all legislation and compliance documents and a gas certificate is his verification of this. In the event you have a concern about the gasfitting work carried out at your property, the certifying gasfitter should be your first point of contact. Certificates should be kept in a safe place as they may be required for conveyancing purposes if the property is sold. Gas providers may also require a copy of your certificate before you are supplied with gas or before they refill your LPG bottles.Since October 2010, gas certificates have been filed by certified gasfitters electronically on the Board's online database. Over 500,000 paper certificates held by the Board have been recorded electronically in the database. Where an installation was certified using a paper certificate, that certificate serves as the true, legal document. The electronic record of a paper certificate serves as a record that the paper version exists. It is important to note that if there are any inconsistencies between the paper certificate and the electronic record of it, then the paper version prevails.
