Building consents

Territorial authorities (city or district councils) issue building consents where required before plumbing or drainlaying work commences and a code compliance certificate is issued on completion of the work.

To contact your territorial authority and for further information visit: Local Government New Zealand or Local Councils New Zealand

Gasfitting is a self-certifying trade. Certifying gasfitters issue an Energy Works Certificate (often referred to as a gas certificate) on the completion of work, this must satisfy the requirements of the Building Code and no other consent is required.
